This year, European Maritime Day welcomed more than 1200 participants from all over Europe and focused on investments in blue growth - smart and sustainable solutions. The conference was held in Turku, the maritime capital of Finland, on the 18th and 19th of May 2016 and had an attractive lineup of participants including the Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries, Karmenu Vella.
MDCE co-hosted a workshop that addressed the impacts of sulphur regulation on the shipping industry and how we can find solutions that are valuable for both the shipping companies as well as society as a whole. Many experiences and lessons regarding the SECA regulation were shared and debated which was part of the EnviSuM project. Jan Boyesen, Head of development at MDCE moderated the workshop.
MDCE was also part a thematic session on how to boost skills development for the maritime sector in order to prepare the workforce to apply new technologies, respect new standards and work in international teams across disciplines and sectors. Jan Boyesen was the rapporteur on this session.
Thanks to all who participated, we'll see you next year!
