How shall the maritime industry reach the ambitious targets of IMO?

In April 2018, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) approved a historical strategy for CO2 and other GHG´s from shipping.

The strategy includes concrete reduction targets for the sector and requires shipping to reduce CO2 emissions per transport work, as an average across international shipping, by at least 40% by 2030, pursuing efforts towards total 50% GHG reductions in 2050, compared to 2008.

Different stakeholders from the industry will give their view of how the targets can be reached by new technologies, new fuel types and engine technologies and new ways of ship operation or others means.

Imagine being a main engine - how should we treat you in 2020?

GET YOUR HANDS ON HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE 2020 GLOBAL CAP

The introduction of the global cap in 2020 puts limits to SOx emissions. Shipowners and operators need to prepare in a timely manner, in order to adhere to regulation, and to make sure the transition is done in a safe manner not affecting the vessels systems and operation.

With this workshop we want to invite technicians, superintendents, commercial operators, suppliers - and everybody else with interest in vessel maintenance and operation to go into the brain of a main engine to discuss and learn how to prepare for the global cap.

Initially we will get an overview: why the global cap? What regulations are implemented? And how are they implemented and enforced?

We will continue to look at the bunker side: what to expect from new qualities bunker blends, how should we prepare the vessel in terms of procedures and tanks - and not at least crew training.

Finally, we look at the engine side. What will the new fuels mean for our engines? How about cylinder- and lube oils, maintenance, adjustments etc.

We will wrap up with a Q&A session, which will be a forum for exchanges knowledge and experience as well as a possibility to use all the experts present from engine manufacturers, suppliers etc.

Come join us on a day where the focus is to share hands-on knowledge between people with a passion for vessel management and operation - to make sure that we prepare for the best possible global cap transition.

The Baltic Sustainable Cruise Conference 2019

The Cruise industry is booming these years and the Baltic sea has risen to become one of the global hotspots for the cruise industry. Hundreds of cruise vessels, with thousands of port calls, and carrying millions of guests all impact our area. However, the world is changing and the demand for sustainable tourism is growing. We will keep attracting cruise guests by briskly transforming the Baltic Sea to the most sustainable cruise destination in the world.

Impacts from SECA and Global Cap 2020

Impacts from SECA and Global Cap 2020

Conference

  • How has SECA affected air quality, human health and the shipping industry?

  • What is air emission performance of scrubbers, LNG and MGO?

  • What is the level of compliance of SECA?

  • What are the lessons learned from SECA to the Global Sulphur Cap 2020?

Before the 0.1 % SECA was adopted in the Baltic and North Seas in 2015, there was great fear about the consequences. Since then, little knowledge has been created on the actual effect of SECA in terms of emissions, air quality, human health, and the shipping business.

The three years EnviSuM project has analysed the impacts of SECA. Soon the Global Sulphur Cap 2020 will enter into force. But what can we learn from SECA? Are there lessons to be learned from SECA to the Sulphur Cap? Join the debate in our final conference!

The target group is authorities, researchers, maritime organisations, policymakers, as well as companies that are interested in SECA, Global Sulphur Cap 2020, air emissions from shipping and the impact on health. Participation is free of charge.

Creating zero emissions from shipping in port through innovative on-shore power supply

Emissions from ships in coastal areas and in ports are a concern

The IMO has discussed on-shore power supply at the international level and specific countries and ports have considered application of novel technology to enable sustainable solutions for shipping which are acceptable to society. Electricity is today being supplied to a range of different ships covering cruise ships, container carriers, ferries, fishing vessels and other vessels. Feasibility studies, different business cases and technical solutions for a range of different applications will be presented.

Maritime luftemissioner

Maritime luftemissioner

Future Maritime Fuels

Future Maritime Fuels

- WITH A SMALL CARBON FOOTPRINT SEEN FROM A LIFE CYCLE PERSPECTIVE – LEADING EXPERTS AND THE INDUSTRY WILL GIVE THE LATEST NEWS ABOUT THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE.

In April 2018, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted at its 72th meeting in the Maritime Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC 72) the historical strategy for CO2 and other GHG´s from shipping.  The strategy includes concrete reduction targets for the sector and requires shipping to reduce CO2 emissions per transport work, as an average across international shipping, by at least 40% by 2030, pursuing efforts towards 70% by 2050, compared to 2008.

The future CO2 reduction requirements imply significant changes in fuel supply resulting in fuels which totally emit less CO2 than to day. This means that the total carbon footprint from well to propeller has to be taken into account in the coming legislation in IMO and EU. Leading experts form the universities and the industry will present their views on this exciting future.
