Nordic Green Shipping 2019: 3 hours, 81 meetings – short and sweet
The concept is clear, time is precious, you have 10 minutes to pitch your business!
By optimizing a typical meeting with a potential supplier, each Danish shipowner had up to 10 meetings of 10 minutes, with the invited Finnish companies presenting their smart or green solutions.
Suppliers were introducing their solutions to the Danish market and all participants had the opportunity to meet companies and persons which they might not otherwise have met.
Besides networking and conversations during the breaks, 81 official B2B meetings were held. Some participants were familiar with the concept, others were new.
Tina Hellman, Business Development Manager at Geyser Batteries, was one of the new participants and said: “We are new to this market and 10 minutes is a short time to present your business. But I hope to sow a seed and people get back to you in the future”.

Decarbonizing Shipping was to referred to by several participants as the most urgent challenge due to climate changes. To go greener there must be a business case as a transitional driver. How to make the transition happen:
Through regulations - Ports, cities, governments and the international community must actively demand change. For instance by setting ocean speed limits or policies, vessels not living up to green and digital standards are not allowed to sail in. This would create a business driver to become more sustainable, not only environmentally, but also regarding competitiveness
Digitalization and automation for optimization - Better utilization of already available data. Analyzing and optimizing operations would create both environmental and economic advantages
Circular thinking and recycling - Implementing life cycle thinking, e.g could old ships be used as a “new raw material” in a circular business model? Going back basics - using more wood in shipbuilding as well as new light weight recyclable materials
The Disruptive Corner was conducted by Niina Aagaard, COO at Nordic Innovation.
Ambassador Vesa Vasara was an excellent host creating a great atmosphere and he concluded this successful seventh edition of Nordic Green Shipping raising the glass with an ice-cold vodka-shot before the dinner.

The B2B meeting Nordic Green Shipping is taking place every year in October at the Finnish Ambassador’s Residence in Copenhagen. This year the founding partners MDC, Business Finland and Energy Vaasa had invited nine shipowners and 14 suppliers to 81 speed-meetings. This closed and exclusive event brought along for the 7th time strategic partnerships and business relations between Danish shipowners and Finnish suppliers.
